Dave inspecting a clear panel on an inflatable

In-house inflatable inspections

Case-by-case inspections for some non-mechanical inflatable equipment outside PIPA scope, carried out by RPII-registered Annual Inflatable Inspector Dave Morris.

Which test do I need?

The right route depends on whether the equipment falls within the PIPA scheme. You do not need to work that out alone: send the office the make, model and a photo if you are unsure.

PIPA testing

For inflatable play equipment within the current PIPA scheme. A passing inspection provides the applicable PIPA tag, database registration and online inspection report. No separate certificate is issued for PIPA-scope equipment.

Usually relevant to: eligible castles, slides, obstacle courses, bouncing pillows, bungee runs and constant-air non-ride-on games.

In-house inspections

For some non-mechanical inflatable equipment outside PIPA scope, subject to Dave reviewing the device and confirming he is competent to inspect it. An in-house report and separately charged certificate can be provided where applicable. This can include inflatable rodeo beds, which Dave can also repair and reskin, but not the mechanical mechanism. Other devices require a specialist inspection body.

Not certain where yours fits? Dave will confirm before the booking.

What an in-house inspection may cover

The inspection basis depends on the device. Dave reviews its design, intended use, manufacturer information and applicable standards or guidance before confirming whether he is competent to inspect it.

  • Structure and materials

Seams, stitching, wall ties, structural integrity, sharp edges, zips, fabric and fire-retardant materials.

  • Dimensions and anchoring

Step and wall dimensions, fall-off heights, anchor points, anchor accessories and spacing.

  • Pressure and evacuation

Internal pressure, air-loss points, deflation time, evacuation and entrapment risks.

  • Blower and electrical equipment

Blower suitability, condition and inflation tubes. Agreed blower PAT is a separate electrical-maintenance service included in Dave's day rate.

  • Markings and identification

User limits, height markings, identification, blower details and inspection information.

  • Instructions and records

Available manufacturer information, operating instructions, previous reports and other paperwork relevant to safe use.

Measured, recorded and explained

Dave measures the equipment, records the findings and explains anything that needs attention. Minor repairs can often be completed on the same visit.

Failures and re-tests

Every failure is different. Dave will explain what has failed, what work is required and the re-test cost for that unit before any repair or return visit is agreed.
