Dave measuring the internal wall height of an inflatable

Inflatable testing, training and repairs

PIPA inspections for eligible inflatable play equipment and non-ride-on games, plus case-by-case in-house inspections for some equipment outside the scheme.

Which test do I need?

The right route depends on whether the equipment falls within the PIPA scheme. You do not need to work that out alone: send the office the make, model and a photo if you are unsure.

PIPA testing

For inflatable play equipment within the current PIPA scheme. A passing inspection provides the applicable PIPA tag, database registration and online inspection report. No separate certificate is issued for PIPA-scope equipment.

Usually relevant to: eligible castles, slides, obstacle courses, bouncing pillows, bungee runs and constant-air non-ride-on games.

In-house inspections

For some non-mechanical inflatable equipment outside PIPA scope, subject to Dave reviewing the device and confirming he is competent to inspect it. An in-house report and separately charged certificate can be provided where applicable. This can include inflatable rodeo beds, which Dave can also repair and reskin, but not the mechanical mechanism. Other devices require a specialist inspection body.

Not certain where yours fits? Dave will confirm before the booking.

Inflatable inspection from an experienced operator

Dave has worked in the inflatable industry for 25 years and has been involved with PIPA from the start. He inspects commercial equipment for hire companies, schools, leisure sites and event businesses, with UK travel available for suitable bookings.

  • Ride-on play equipment

PIPA testing for eligible castles, slides, obstacle courses, bouncing pillows, bungee runs and other equipment within the current scheme scope.

  • Non-ride-on games

Eligible constant-air games can now be inspected and issued with a PIPA tag, including many shootouts, dartboards and side-stall games.

  • Other inflatables

Dave may inspect some out-of-scope inflatable components case by case. The report covers only the component identified, not any associated mechanism or complete device.

  • Practical repairs

Dave is also an experienced inflatable repairer, so minor faults can often be dealt with during the inspection visit.

  • Separate PAT service

The day rate includes PAT for the agreed blowers as a separate electrical-maintenance service, with extension leads available to test during the visit.

  • Travelling inspections

UK travel is available for suitable bookings, subject to the equipment list, journey and agreed costs.

What the work looks like

An inspection is more than a quick look at the fabric. Dave works through the measurements, pressure, condition, equipment details and paperwork that apply to each unit. These are some of the jobs that can form part of a visit.

  • Measuring entrances and steps

Openings, steps, walls and fall-off heights are checked against the requirements that apply to the equipment.

  • Checking inflation pressure

Pressure readings help Dave assess whether the inflatable and its blower are operating as intended during the inspection.

  • Recording the findings

Eligible passing units are tagged and their inspection information is recorded through the PIPA system.

  • Testing agreed blowers

Blower PAT can be handled during the visit as a separate electrical-maintenance service included in the day rate.

  • Repairing damaged fabric

Dave can deal with many seams, anchors, beds, tubes, zips and fabric repairs on-site or in the workshop.

  • Specialist bouncing-pillow checks

Permanently installed bouncing pillows need an inspector who has completed the relevant additional training.

From enquiry to paperwork

  • 1. Tell us what you have

Send the equipment types, quantities, location and preferred date. Photos help when the correct test or a repair is unclear.

  • 2. Confirm the test route

Dave checks which units are eligible for PIPA, which he may be competent to inspect in-house and which require another specialist before the visit is priced.

  • 3. Confirm the visit

The office confirms the expected time, travel, likely cost and practical arrangements before reserving the slot.

  • 4. Prepare the equipment

Have the agreed units, blowers, paperwork and enough suitable space ready so Dave can work through the booking efficiently.

  • 5. Inspect and explain

Dave carries out the work himself, records the findings and explains any faults or repairs that need attention.

  • 6. Complete the paperwork

Applicable PIPA records and tags, or in-house reports and requested certificates, are completed after each passing inspection.

PIPA and RPII-registered inspector

One inspector from visit to report

The office handles enquiries and bookings, then Dave carries out the inspection and paperwork himself. He does not subcontract the work, and minor repairs can often be completed during the same visit.

Dave is a PIPA inspector and RPII-registered Annual Inflatable Inspector. He carries out PIPA inspections through Little Monsters, a registered PIPA Inspection Body and part of the Monster Event Hire business.

Based in Havant, travelling for suitable bookings

Dave works from Havant, Hampshire, with regular inspection work across Hampshire and Surrey. Travel farther afield is available where the equipment list and journey make sense; recent work has included a six-day testing visit in South Wales.

Work can take place at your premises or, by arrangement, at the Havant base. Schools, leisure centres and MOD sites are welcome.
